HEALTH
VACCINES | Puppies from Crown Oak are vaccinated with C3 to prevent disease. It is recommended to do your follow up vaccinations with the C5 vaccine. This includes two booster vaccinations and annual vaccinations after that.
WORMING | Puppies at Crown Oak are wormed every two weeks since two weeks of age. Your puppy must be wormed every two weeks until ten weeks of age and then once a month. When you have reached the once a month stage, we recommend changing to a monthly chewable tablet that will cover your dog for heartworm, intestinal worms, fleas and ticks.

EARLY STAGES
SLEEPING | Your puppy will need a warm bed, blanket, a toy and fresh water. Lay some puppy training pads to begin the toilet training process. If your puppy isn’t sleeping with you, the laundry is a great place to set up. Crate training is an ideal method for settling your puppy into its new home and will assist with the toilet training process. Your puppy isn’t used to sleeping without its siblings and mother so crying and howling can be expected for the first few nights. It’s best not to go to your puppy when this occurs as this will encourage the behaviour.
MEALS | A well balanced diet is extremely important to your puppy as they are developing quickly. Your puppy has been fed a super premium food, meaning it provides all essential nutrients and vitamins required. Your puppy is now having two meals a day, morning and evening, and should continue this until they’re a year old. It’s recommended not to leave food out for them to graze on as they need to learn when meal times are. Doing this will also prevent them from becoming fussy eaters. Fresh, clean water should be available at all times.
HYGIENE & CARE
GROOMING | For puppies, a soap-free gentle shampoo should be used once every three weeks as over-bathing can strip natural oils from their coat. Your puppy has minimal to no shedding, clipping every two to three months is necessary to keep the coat in optimum condition, as well as a good weekly brush through. Ensure around the eyes and anus are always trimmed. Long hair on the face will impair vision and long hair near the anus will cause blockages when toileting. Check the length of nails periodically and clip when needed.
EARS & EYES | From time to time your puppy may get aweepy discharge from the eyes which canleave tear stains if not wiped away regularly.To keep clean, wipe your puppy’s eyeswith a cotton ball and warm water or salinesolution. To avoid painful ear infections, it’simportant to keep your puppy’s ears cleanand dry, especially as they get older. Cleanthe ears with each bath. You can use earcleaning solution found at your local vet orpet store
TRAINING
TOILET TRAINING | Persistence and patience are key for toilet training your puppy. Take the puppy outside or on their training pad as soon as they wake, after meals and after playtime. Praise your puppy each time it goes in the correct spot, using treats will get you the best results. Do not smack your puppy if it makes a mess. Say “no” in a firm voice and take them to their designated training spot. You must do this immediately or whilst they’re in the process for it to be effective. A puppy pen is very helpful as it creates a smaller area and provides a safe environment when you’re not home. Put a training pad down in a corner for them. Pheromone drops for the puppy pad will encourage them to identify the pad as the toileting area and increases the chances of successful toilet training.
